1908 Daniel Thomson, joiner and Cartwright, repairs and occasionally builds caravans for showmen.
1919-20s Thomson built bodies on model T Fords for local businesses and then designed and built its first motorhome, they dropped the idea as the vehicles proved to be slow and cumbersome so he decided to concentrate on trailer caravans instead. The early Thomson had a lantern roof. 1922 Thomson
1929/30 The Thomson 'Egg & I' prototype was built, often described as an early teardrop type of caravan this was an early attempt at streamlining the Thomson trailer caravans.
David thomson, Daniel's son, took models of the caravans to the Royal Technical College , Glasgow to test the designs in a wind tunnel, the first Caravan designer to do so.

Production of caravans ceased during WWII. Thomsons turned to constructing Ambulances, trailers and thousands upon thousands of Ammunition boxes.

Due to the recession in the early 80's Thomson like so many other manufacturers were finally forced to close. A sad loss to staff, caravanners and subsidiary companies alike.
